Q: What is Himayat? A: Himayat is a community organisation based in Canberra, ACT, that supports migrants, refugees, and people who feel unseen by the system. We're people who've lived through similar journeys and stayed to build something better for those coming after us.

Q: Who can access Himayat's services? A: Our services are available to anyone from migrant and refugee backgrounds in the ACT who needs support navigating services like NDIS, Centrelink, employment, or community connection.

Q: What languages do you support? A: We provide language support in Dari, Urdu, and other languages. Our team understands the challenges of language barriers and can connect you with appropriate interpreters and support.

Q: Is there a cost for your services? A: Many of our services and community events are free. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.


NDIS Support

Q: Can Himayat help me with the NDIS? A: Yes! We are a registered NDIS provider and can help you navigate the NDIS system, connect with specialists, access your funding, and understand your plan.

Q: I've been on the NDIS for years but haven't used my funding. Can you help? A: Absolutely. We specialise in helping people who have faced barriers to accessing their NDIS funding, whether due to language barriers, lack of understanding of the system, or not being connected to the right providers.

Q: Do I need to have an NDIS plan already to get help? A: No. We can help you understand if you're eligible for the NDIS, assist with applications, and support you through the entire process.


Employment & Business Support

Q: Can Himayat help me find work? A: Yes. We offer employment support, including paid roles within our organisation, connections to job opportunities, and guidance on building sustainable career paths in Australia.

Q: I want to start my own business. Can you help? A: We provide business support for migrants and refugees, including honest guidance, connections to the right partners, and help navigating the Australian business landscape.

Q: What if I'm experiencing wage theft or workplace exploitation? A: We advocate for people who have been exploited or mistreated at work. If you're not being paid or are being treated unfairly, please reach out to us immediately.


Q: Can you help me with Centrelink? A: Yes. We can help you understand Centrelink services, assist with applications, and navigate government support systems.

Q: I don't understand the letters I'm receiving from government agencies. Can you help? A: Absolutely. We can help you understand correspondence from Centrelink, NDIS, and other government agencies, and guide you on what actions to take.

Q: Where is Cafe Stepping Stone? A: Cafe Stepping Stone is located at 8 Hawdon Place, Dickson ACT 2602. It's a safe, supportive space where migrants and refugees can connect.

Q: What community events do you offer? A: We host various events including:

  • Free English conversation sessions with native speakers
  • Women's morning gatherings with tea and conversation
  • Community connection events
  • Running programs for migrant women
  • Drop-in sessions at Cafe Stepping Stone
